On May 21, 1972, Christopher George Latore Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G. was born in Brooklyn, New York. The East Coast hip-hop legend would have been celebrating his 44th birthday this year, and to commemorate the date, Detroit-based high-end sneaker boutique Burn Rubber is partnering up with Reebok Classics for a special Phase 1 sneaker. The model comes inspired from the rapper’s hit track “Hypnotize” off his Life After Death (1997) album, where Biggie shouts out a tribute to Detroit’s infamous pimp style (“Pink gators, my Detroit players / Timbs for my hooligans in Brooklyn…”). Here, a pink suede upper is paired with matching alligator-embossed leather referenced in the track that’s accented with a clean white midsole, gum outsole and hints of reflective 3M strips throughout.

Watch for these Burn Rubber x Reebok Classics “Detroit Playas” Phase 1s when they drop April 30 online at Burn Rubber Sneakers.
