This New Video Lets Us All Reminisce on the Past Decade of Viral Dance Sensations
From “Crank That” to the “Shmoney Dance.”
If you pay any attention to social media platforms like Twitter or Vine, it might seem like there’s a new viral dance sensation sweeping the Internet every couple months. The New Yorker has put together a video of some of the past decade’s most instantly-recognizable dance crazes, from the Chicken Noodle Soup to the Crank That to the Shmoney Dance and everything in between. The video also features talent from across the United States: Chrybaby Cozie Swagga holds it down for New York City; Chapkidz, ODC/Dance and UCLA’s Gymanastics squad all formed like Voltron to help rep California; while Dragon House and the talent kids from Ron Clark Academy carry the flag for Atlanta.
Fool’s Gold co-founder Nick ‘Catchdini’ Catchdubs handled the soundtrack, which includes interpolations of Southern snap and ringtone rap.
