The Finalists for the 2016 LVMH Prize Have Been Chosen
Featuring the contest’s first Japanese nominee in its three year history.
LVMH has narrowed down the shortlist for its 2016 prize from 23 semifinalists to eight finalists. Each was selected by a panel of 41 fashion experts from around the world after they presented their designs to the panel, which included the likes of Riccardo Tisci and Karl Lagerfeld. The selection notably features the prize’s first Japanese finalist (Hiromichi Ochiai of Facetasm), Matthew Williams of Alyx, and three Paris-based designers. The final prize-winner will be awarded €300,000 prize money (approximately $335K USD) and a mentorship from LVMH.
The eight nominees are as follows, presented in alphabetical order: Aalto by Tuomas Merikoski, Alyx by Matthew Williams, Brandon Maxwell by Brandon Maxwell, Facetasm by Hiromichi Ochiai, Koché by Christelle Kocher, Vejas by Vejas Kruszewski, Wales Bonner by Grace Wales Bonner, and Y/Project by Glenn Martens.
