The Berrics Announces Its 2016 Populist Nominees
Let your voice be heard for skater of the year.
The Berrics has announced the nominees for its annual Populist award, which commemorates the skater who threw down the hardest in 2016, “a hell of a leap year” for the sport — it was recently added to the Olympics, after all. And this year’s competition proves it. The Berrics staff keeps their circle close, narrowing their selections down to an elite ten. We don’t envy them, but we do thank them. The process can’t have been easy: Evan Smith completed a three-peat of envelope-pushing parts; then there’s the timeless appeal of two-time nominees Ishod Wair, Shane O’Neil and “Mr. Natural” Miles Silvas, who all turned in career years; Tiago Lemos delivered a stellar Press Play part for DC; speed demon Dennis Busenitz celebrated a decade riding for the Three Stripes with his Away Days Part; Justin “Figgy” Figueroa fought through a rib injury to deliver a banger of a part in Emerica’s MADE. As for Thrasher‘s 2016 SOTY Kyle Walker, we can only direct you toward his Vans “No Other Way” part for proof of his gnarliness. And then there’s the Dutch wunderkind, Daan Van Der Linden, whose age belies an old school sense of style.
