Kanye West, Riccardo Tisci, Alessandro Michele and More Honor Late Vogue Italia Editor, Franca Sozzani
Notable creatives took to social media to pay their tributes.
The fashion world suffered a great loss yesterday. Franca Sozzani, the famed editor of Vogue Italia for an impressive record-breaking 28 years died at 66 after a year-long illness. She passed away in Milan with her son Francesco Carrozzini by her side. Amongst other notable accomplishments in her career, Sozzani was also a goodwill ambassador and developed the highly-revered concept store, 10 Corso Como.
As editor, Franca Sozzani dared to push the boundaries of fashion. She believed that the industry was more than what was perceived by the masses. Vanessa Friedman of New York Times Fashion said in her tribute on Twitter, “Farewell to Franca Sozzani, a woman who believed fashion could be more. “We can’t always be writing about flowers,” she said.”
Others in the world of fashion paid their respects on social media as well. Kanye West simply noted with an image of her, “Franca Sozzani was always so nice and sincere. You will be deeply missed.” Notable Italian designers and brands such as Riccardo Tisci, Alessandro Michele, Prada, and Donatella Versace honored the late editor with some kind words. Tisci wrote a long heart-felt note on Instagram that included this sentence, “Your spirit, your kindness, and gentle soul will be missed in this world forever.”
Prada’s official Instagram account simply put “Queen of Italy” beside her portrait and Donatella Versace wrote “Ciao Franca, my dearest friend. You will be in my heart forever.” Versace also added an old image of Sozzani and Gianni together on the page with the note “Gianni and Franca flying to heaven.”
