A Pair of Nike MAGs Sold for Over $100,000 USD at Auction
“Great Scott, Marty!”
The rollout of the Nike MAG — the iconic, futuristic silhouette donned by Marty McFly in Back to the Future II — has been generating tremendous attention, not only due to its super-limited release of just 89 units, but also because the Swoosh have opted to distribute the pairs via raffle, giving fans a chance to own history for the low, low price of just $10 USD a ticket. The Michael J. Fox Foundation, meanwhile, have promised to match any and all donations on a dollar-by-dollar basis, ultimately benefiting the cause of Parkinson’s research. Once the raffle draws to a close, however, the remaining pairs will be auctioned off live and the first of these sales recently wrapped up in Hong Kong, with the winning bid coming in at £84,872 GBP, or approximately $104,267 USD.
This dizzying sum represents a tremendous jump in value: for reference, the original run of Nike MAGs fetched a maximum of $3,800 USD at auction back in 2011, while resale value peaked at around $11K USD.
