Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Will Ferrell Link up to Develop a Wrestling Sitcom
Based on the star’s real life experiences.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson continues to stay busy in both the movie and television fronts – he’s currently filming the new Jumanji movie and his HBO show Ballers just completed its second season earlier this year. Now the accomplished celebrity is teaming up with Will Ferrell (as producer) to develop a Fox network comedy show that centers around the world of pro-wrestling. With The Rock no stranger to the sport, the sitcom’s premise will be, as Variety states, “… a behind-the-scenes look at a professional wrestling outfit and chronicles the one-of-a-kind odd couple relationship that develops between a charismatic young character, like the The Rock, and a painfully awkward comedy writer new to the world of wrestling. A fish-out-of-water among all of these alpha males, this beta former sitcom writer needs as much help as he can get navigating the extremely passionate, sometimes crazy and always unpredictable world of professional wrestling.”
Interestingly enough the show will take some aspects from Dwayne Johnson’s life during his formative years in the sport. As Johnson states, “I was 24 years old, putting in the hard work, making $40 bucks per match and had no clue of the long journey that lay ahead of me with characters and backstage stories so colorful you’d think there’s no way that can be true. The entertaining show that goes on in front of the crowd pales in comparison to the insanely entertaining show that goes on backstage. Brian and myself can’t wait to tell our stories.” In addition, this November marks the 20th anniversary of the star’s professional wrestling debut.
No exact release date has been stated, but the pilot is in the works. Stay tuned as we find out more about this passion project by The Rock himself.
