Tesla Revisits Its Model S-E-X Lineup With "Affordable" Electric Vehicles
One S.3.X.Y. group of cars.

It’s good to know that Elon Musk has a sense of humor: after the successful releases of the sporty Model S and the SUV Model X, the Tesla Motors CEO joked that the next model was being developed under the working title Model E. The hybrid car company even went so far as to begin the process of filing copyrights for the name.
Unfortunately, Ford Motors does not share the tech mogul’s boyish sense of humor and killed the Model E before it could be copyrighted or brought to market. However, it looks like Musk might just get the last laugh after all: Tesla has confirmed that they are in fact in the process of developing the new “affordable” electric vehicle. And get this: in addition to the Model 3, there are rumors of an additional whip called the Model Y. Get it?!
The tongue-in-cheek Model 3 is rumored to be a compact electric sedan, while the Y model may be either a crossover or a truck; both are rumored to be based around the company’s new ‘pancake’ style electric battery platform. Most crucially, the Model 3 is said to cost ‘only’ $35,000 USD, with Tesla hoping that a more accessible price-point will boost sales. We’ll have to wait until March’s official announcement to see if the Model 3’s name sticks, but this is good news regardless.
