Marina Picasso Sells Her Grandfather's Legacy

It is no secret Marina Picasso held a contemptuous relationship with her grandfather. According to her 2001 memoir, Pablo Picasso was supposedly less successful in his personal life despite being hailed as one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century. The Sotheby’s London auction, Picasso in Private: Works from the Collection of Marina Picasso, is the latest in a series of endeavors to offload the burden of her late grandfather’s enduring legacy and heal from the past.
With a pre-sale estimate of $10.5 million-14.8 million USD (artwork above expected to fetch a cool $87,500 USD), the collection will feature over 100 works on paper and 70 ceramic and terracotta sculptures. Although the full list of works for sale has yet to be released, highlights from the collection be can be seen on January 13-17 at Sotheby’s New York and January 28-February 4 at Sotheby’s London. Any Picasso aficionado, should preview this rare public sighting before it undoubtedly ends up in another private collection.
