Nasir Mazhar 2016 Fall/Winter Collection
A retort to critics for marginalizing the London designer’s work as “sportswear.”

Last night at London Collections Men, East London designer Nasir Mazhar presented a noteworthy range for 2016 fall/winter. Led by functional motifs found in club culture and athletic apparel, chunky platform boots were paired with tracksuits and well-fitted vests in an ode to the capital’s urban music scene. Other outfits displayed a more androgynous sensibility, as models revealed plenty of skin through the skimpy string tops, patched audaciously with body-hugging trousers tinged with cyber punk themes.
Early fans of the label may be disappointed to see the lack of logo-tape that made up much of the designer’s early collections, yet nonetheless, Mazhar kept followers engaged with the delivery of new headwear designs. The trademark bully cap made an appearance alongside newly-designed bucket hats. Elsewhere, shoulder bags, forward-thinking backpack designs and nylon briefcase provided more grounded concepts compared to the display of tongue-in-cheek surrealism seen across certain models; some struct down the runway draped in deconstructed dress conjuring up themes seen in somber ceremonial dress. In all, the collection was an honest expression from the designer who castrated critics for marginalizing his work into categories of sportswear and streetwear.
