ASICS GEL-Lyte III Designer Shigeyuki Mitsui Talks About Creating the Iconic Sneaker
The cult figure on why the sneaker has stayed around as long as it has.
The ASICS GEL-Lyte III has its fair share of the collective sneakerhead consciousness, having become a timeless classic in its own right since its inception in 1990. This year marks its 25th anniversary, and so its creator and cult figure Shigeyuki Mitsui has designed a special limited edition commemorative model that takes advantage of the quality construction bestowed upon it by its Made in Japan status. This is, of course, in conjunction with several other anniversary collaborations with notable sneaker boutiques around the world. With only 255 pairs made of the 25th Anniversary edition, I Dig Your Sole Man interviews Mitsui on the rarefied model, as well as the history and design process behind the perennial sneaker.
