Tyler, The Creator Claims to Be Banned in Australia
Tyler’s tiff with Collective Shout escalates to a border war.

You shouldn’t ever really call anyone a “cunt” or “fucking whore,” but you especially shouldn’t call the vocal representative of a feminist activist group those names. Then again, Tyler, the Creator isn’t the type to live by the confines of ‘should-nots.’ Last time we checked in, Tyler was engaged in a war of words with none other than Australian feminist group Collective Shout, and specifically targeted one of its activists Talitha Stone. After the group initially petitioned the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to block Tyler’s visa in 2013, it has followed up those efforts with a new campaign to keep Tyler out of Australia ahead of his tour planned for September. While department officials down under are still considering Collective Shout’s petition and have not made an official decision, Tyler took to Twitter to claim that he has been definitively banned. While it may seem extreme to ban an artist from an entire country, the intimidating masculinist rhetoric in the conversation over the years is a major contribution to a larger imbalance that needs to be addressed.
