Recently, public schools in Atlanta have decided to discontinue their music program for the coming school year. What’s more is that they did not give music teachers any warning during the decision process. One of the victims, music teacher Arthur McClenton, shares with 11Alive: “We (music teachers) were blindsided, when other teachers received contracts, we received letters saying we were going to be abolished. We didn’t know. It just hit us.” In place of traditional music classes, public schools will soon be offering General Music instruction. Several artists, including OutKast’s Big Boi and Tyler, The Creator, expressed their thoughts on this, which you can read below.
