President Barack Obama recently paid a visit to Nike’s world headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon to talk to the footwear company on plans to aid in the acceleration of investment in domestic manufacturing. Obama was in support of the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). A more relaxed tariff opens up possibilities for Nike to develop a domestic supply chain, translating to the creation of 10,000 manufacturing and engineering jobs, construction jobs, and up to 40,000 indirect positions as a result of the shift in going domestic — all forecasted in the next decade.
The President and CEO of Nike, Mark Parker had this to say:
“We believe agreements that encourage free and fair trade allow Nike to do what we do best: innovate, expand our businesses and drive economic growth. Nike has always led the way in product innovation, and now we will be able to accelerate our investments to continue to drive manufacturing innovation,”
