IKEA has found themselves a strange bedfellow for its latest collaboration as the Swedish housewares giant, famous for its inexpensive and minimalist furniture, is teaming up with quirky menswear designer Walter Van Beirendonck. The Belgian designer is best known for being a mentor to Raf Simons but also for his penchant for pushing the envelope of men’s fashion with neon leggings, corsets, body harnesses and crop tops being just a few of the items he has previously sent down the runways. Van Beirendonck has created five prints and fabrics for IKEA that will be incorporated on a range of interior design objects, and has said that the theme of the collection will revolve around an imagined colony of people who live in the clouds. Walter Van Beirendonck’s IKEA collection is due to drop in June 2016.
