Apple kicked off today’s highly anticipated “Spring Forward” event by inviting none other than HBO Chairman and CEO Richard Plepler to the stage for a special announcement: the unveiling of HBO’s long-awaited standalone streaming service. Called HBO Now and billed by Plepler as “a transformative moment for HBO,” the service has been unveiled as an Apple exclusive and will come to the likes of the Apple TV — whose price point has been slashed to $69 USD — iPhone and iPad early next month, just in time for the premieres of Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley and Veep while offering access to all HBO content. And best of all? The service will be just $14.99 USD per month with no HBO subscription required for access.
