In this installment of Essentials, Italian fashion polymath Luca Benini lets us in on 24 of his must-have items. In 1989, Benini founded Ferrara-based fashion imprint, Slam Jam — a blending of his home country’s rich subcultures with inspirations found abroad. Despite its beginnings in fashion, Slam Jam’s pursuits often blur the line between art, streetwear and music. Having expanded over the course of time, Slam Jam offers a mix of limited-edition items and mainline street-ready brands from its Milan and Ferrara stores (both of which also function as pop-up galleries), while providing e-commerce services with its online store, Slam Jam Socialism. Outgrowing his role within the Slam Jam empire, Benini has also taken on the responsibility of overlooking Carhartt, Stussy and NikeLab distribution stores.
For his Essentials, Benini exhibits a mix of refined and classical pieces from revered labels – an UNDERCOVER biker jacket is paired with a classic fleece shirt, and accessorized with a Slam Jam Brigade Leather Belt, while Marios Padded Silver Bag adds progressive riffs. Elsewhere, Moroccan oil, Japanese eyewash and health kit are placed next to designer accessories; Stephen Sprouse x Louis Vuitton Foulard scarf and SOPHNET. x uniform experiment socks. A pair of Roundel London x George Cox brogues and UNDERCOVER sneakers present footwear options. Along with the swathe of branded goods, Benini keeps his family close at all times, with a photo of his granddaughter as his screen saver.
