Meet Darker Than Wax: HYPEBEAST TV's Soundtrack Creators
The duo behind Singapore’s genre-defying label.
Founded in 2011 by Kevin Guoh (Kaye) and Dean Chew (Funk Bast*rd), the tight-knit collective of talented musicians that is Darker Than Wax have been making waves through various online-based music platforms with their diverse catalogue of genre-defying releases, and a 29-man strong roster that stretches across all corners of the globe. The Singaporean label is out to prove that categories in music are totally irrelevant in this day and age, incorporating elements of jazz, house, R&B and hip-hop for a progressive sound that the imprint is now synonymous with. The co-founders spoke to us about the inner workings of the label and their unique production styles in our latest instalment of HYPEBEAST TV, for which we were also lucky enough to premier DTW’s new release “Coastlines” by 10A & Troy Samuela.
