Chicago-bred Chance the Rapper made history last night as the first unsigned artist ever to perform as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Backed by a full band and brass ensemble, he debuted a new song titled Somewhere in Paradise along with Jeremih, followed by a mellow version of Sunday’s Candy featuring Donnie Trumpet and The Social Experiment. During his second set, Chance acknowledged and brought to light his hometown’s struggles by mentioning Chicago police Officer Jason Van Dyke, who was charged with first-degree murder last month for the shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald. Watch the performances from the Chris Hemsworth-hosted episode below:

Following his appearance, Chance immediately posted the studio version of Somewhere in Paradise featuring Jeremih and R. Kelly, downloadable for free via his website.
