"UNEXPECTED" Street Art Festival 2015 Recap
Featuring guest artists Vhils, D*Face, Ana Maria, Bicicleta Sem Freio, Roa and Askew.
Held from September 4 to 12, UNEXPECTED was a street art-centric art festival curated by multi-disciplinary interface JUSTKIDS. Hosted in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the event featured guest artists Vhils, D*Face, Maser, Ana Maria, Bicicleta Sem Freio, Roa and Askew. Throughout the week, the artists painted 12 new murals and in the process rejuvenated the beautiful historic buildings of the quiet town’s central metro area. As Askew (New Zealand) puts it, producing large murals in smaller suburbs is a refreshing experience. “The difference between coming to small towns versus painting in big cities is that there’s an element of people being jaded in big cities – there’s an over-saturation of this type of work,” he says, “They’re not shocked or surprised, they just take it for granted. And then you just come somewhere where people aren’t used to seeing it, you get such a totally different reaction.” You can check out the full recap video above.
