Four Watches From 'Mad Men' to Be Auctioned off by Christie's New York
This is your best chance to own a piece of both horological and TV history.
Singlehandedly responsible for a renewed fascination with the classic fashions of the 1960s, Mad Men stopped at no expense to provide as accurate a picture of the historical period as possible. This carried through to the characters’ wristwear choices, for which the show’s producers enlisted the help of vintage watch purveyor Derek Dier to procure hallmarks of mid-century watch fashion to both express the characters’ personas as well as the era’s design zeitgeist. Now, enthusiasts of both watches and Mad Men can get in on the action with the auctioning off of four watches by Christie’s New York: a 1960 Omega Seamaster worn by Don Draper (as well as by actor Jon Hamm on his Rolling Stone cover), a 1959 Tudor Oyster Prince “Tuxedo” worn by Roger Sterling, Pete Campbell’s Hamilton Sputnik, and Megan Draper’s 1960s white gold Jules Jergensen. All watches will be auctioned on December 16 for an estimate of $1,000-2,000 USD, accompanied with a letter of authenticity from Dier.
