Mike Dean #MWA for HYPETRAK: White Black Jesus
The legendary producer Mike Dean laces one.
Mike Dean is somewhat mythical and anonymous, but he plays a very crucial role for those he works with and many will tell you, he’s a bonafide legend. For those who aren’t familiar, here’s some insight. Over the past two decades, the producer, engineer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has worked with just about every iconic name in the business. He got his start working as Selena’s musical director in the 80s and then went on to help pioneer the Dirty South in Houston, working with legends like Scarface, UGK, Geto Boys and more. In the early 2000s, he began working closely with Kanye West and has become instrumental in Ye’s career, having made significant contributions on The College Drop Out, Late Registration, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Yeezus. His credits are next level and his fingerprints were even on a lot of big records this year, including A$AP Rocky’s At.Long.Last.A$AP, Travis $cott’s Rodeo, Big Sean’s Dark Sky Paradise, The Weekend’s Beauty Behind The Madness and more. So today, we get the honor of illuminating one of the game’s most under-heralded artists as he inaugurates our new producer series with “White Black Jesus.” Listen above.
