At an invite-only event at its flagship location in New York, New Balance unveiled a first look at its Authors Collection for 2014 yesterday. Divided into three packs – the Made in USA Bespoke, Distinct and Connoisseur – the collection is inspired by great American novels, giving physical life to themes from 20th century literature. Accordingly, materials such as Cone Denim and Horween Leather attest to American industrialism, while tonal beige colorways mirror the spirit of New York City during the gilded age. For these well-planned designs, New Balance aimed to ultimately celebrate its own heritage in American manufacturing, as 1 in 4 of its shoes sold in the U.S. were made domestically last year. The special event was further underlined by a private performance/set by Theophilus London, not to mention some rad complimentary beer, lobster rolls and hot dogs. Enjoy our recap of the event above, and be sure to check back for more from New Balance soon.
