At a time where concern for mobile device privacy and security is at its highest point, the Blackphone recently made its timely debut at Mobile World Congress 2014. Created by SGP Technologies, a joint venture between Silent Circle and Geeksphone, the Blackphone features both a unique Android-based system called PrivatOS and an accompanying suite of privacy-enabled apps. On the hardware side, the Blackphone packs a 2 GHz quad-core SoC, a 4.7″ HD IPS screen, 2GB of DDR3 RAM, 16GB of storage, Bluetooth 4.0 compatibility, 802.11n WiFi, GPS and both a 8MP primary camera with flash and a 1.3MP front-facing camera, and more. The Blackphone is currently available for pre-order to individuals and enterprises unlocked through the brand website with a starting price of $630. It will also be available through select partner carriers when it first launches including KPN mobile, serving Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
