Cove 3 House by SAOTA

Located on an elevated plane that overlooks the sea, the Cove 3 house by SAOTA is a spectacular contemporary residence in Knysna, South Africa. The original concept of the design was to create a living space that would maximize the panoramic views and connections to the surrounding landscape. Through the use of a sufficiently elevated singular roof element that corresponds to the slope of the site, it seems as if one is sitting in the midst of the landscape rather than being in a room looking out at it. A triangular skylight allows plenty of natural light to infiltrate the inner space, and furthermore reinforces the connection with surrounding nature. Inside the residence, the living level holds the kitchen, dining room, and living room and is connected to the private lounge and master bedroom on a mezzanine level with a sculpture-like spiral staircase. Going further down the staircase to the lower level leads to the guest bedroom, home theater and living room, before an L-shaped extension to the southwest of the home houses two children’s bedrooms.
