Kanye West Attempts to Block "Coinye"

Coinye just recently launched as a new digital currency startup and it seems their honouree is non too pleased. Kanye West and his lawyers recently sent the creators, who remain anonymous, a cease and desist. The letter for the demands for the creators to stop using the terms “Coinye West” and “Coniye”, stop using West’s copyrighted material, stop any development and distribution of products and services and finally handover and deactivate the website and social media accounts. The lawyers argue:

“Given Mr. West’s wide-ranging entrepreneurial accomplishments, consumers are likely to mistakenly believe that Mr. West is the source of your services”

Despite the attempts on West’s part the creators still continued to launch the website, however have changed the original logo and changed the url from coniyewest.com to coniyeco.in. During a talk with Wall Street Journal the creators commented:

“We want to release this to the public before the man can try to crush it. They’ll still come after us, but that’s OK.”
