After their beautifully one-of-a-kind Leica M surpassed its early $500,000-$750,000 USD estimates – ultimately selling for $1.8 million USD – Jony Ive‘s and Marc Newson‘s bright red Mac Pro garnered $977,000 USD at auction. Sold by Sotheby’s in New York City to raise money for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis & Malaria, the (RED) Mac Pro was initially expected to raise between $40,000 and $60,000 USD for the cause. In all, the Ive- and Newson-helmed designs – which included the aforementioned Leica M and Mac Pro alongside a Jaeger-LeCoultre watch and clock, 18k rose gold Apple EarPods, sleek aluminum desk, George Lucas-signed Stormtrooper helmet, Zvezda Cosmonaut suit, Olivetti Valentine typewriter and much more – raised a staggering $12 million USD for the Fund.
