To help fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, industrial designer Marc Newson and Apple’s Jony Ive have teamed up with Bono for an upcoming (RED) benefit auction. The team has spent a year and a half curating a collection of items that will be sold at Sotheby’s New York on November 23. Consisting of objects from fields as diverse as space travel, lighting design and contemporary art, the collection is exclusive to the (RED) campaign, with the likes of the Leica digital camera being a one-off item designed entirely by the two. Here, Ive and Newson share their thoughts on the collection, explaining how every items on offer “exudes a certain integrity.” The U2 frontman also makes an appearance in the video, naming the project as a historic moment in the history of design. Stay tuned for more on (RED) via its webpage.
