With the slew of ‘new!’ and ‘updated!’ releases coming out of this year’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) watch convention in Geneva, HODINKEE took a step back to examine one of the watches that started it all: a 1954 Rolex Submariner. The model, 6205, is actually the first to read “Submariner” on the face. This watch is the Porsche 911 of watches – the perfect balance of refined style, minimalism and functionality that makes the brand so revered. This tasteful silhouette features the original thick casing, an unhashed bezel, and a beautiful gold dial and hand set. The watch is long out of production and merely exists as a reference model so, for now, enjoy the pictures.
