Artisans de Genève has unveiled “Feather,” its latest bespoke project, created for legendary Kenyan marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge from his personal Rolex Daytona.
Taking Kipchoge’s “No human is limited” philosophy as its starting point, the customization pays tribute to a career defined by endurance and boundary-pushing performance, including his historic achievement as the first person to cover the marathon distance in under two hours. Lightness became the central design brief, ultimately bringing the completed watch down to just 57 grams, while a red, green and white palette draws directly from Kenya and the landscapes surrounding Kipchoge’s training grounds in Kaptagat.
That pursuit of weight reduction is anchored by a newly fabricated Titalum® case, made from an alloy of titanium and aluminum, paired with Kipchoge’s black rubber Oysterflex strap and brushed aluminum case attachments. Transparency provides the other major visual theme: a clear sapphire dial exposes the openworked mechanics underneath, while a sapphire bezel insert allows light to pass through the watch from its outer edge. Green-emitting Super-LumiNova fills the chronograph counters, while rhodium-plated indices and hands are accented with touches of red. Most distinctive is the central chronograph seconds hand, reshaped into a lightning-bolt silhouette as a direct reference to speed, with white, red and green detailing appearing across the dial, case and movement to reinforce the Kenyan connection.
Beneath the sapphire crystal, the Daytona’s Calibre 4130 has been extensively skeletonized and converted from automatic to manual winding, a move intended both to reduce bulk and introduce a more deliberate interaction with the watch. Finished in nickel-palladium, the movement is sandblasted and decorated by hand, turning the familiar chronograph architecture into a more visibly artisanal centerpiece.
“Feather” is a unique private commission rather than a commercial watch release: Artisans de Genève does not manufacture or sell the donor timepiece and operates independently from Rolex. The workshop lists the estimated personalization service at 56,520 CHF (approx. $68,300 USD), with the client supplying the watch and final pricing dependent on the scope of customization.
