Last year, word surfaced that James Franco would be adding another occupation to his never-ending repertoire: music artist. He released an EP with performance artist Kalup Linzy, but not much came of it. The modern day Renaissance man would never give up on one of his countless passions, though. Franco is still in the business of making music, but this time he’s teamed up with his friend Tim O’Keefe to form a new duo. This coming Tuesday, the two will release their debut EP, MotorCity, under the moniker Daddy. Fittingly, the EP was recorded while Franco was on set in Detroit for his upcoming film, Oz: The Great and Powerful, and even includes a song with guest vocals from Motown legend Smokey Robinson. Adding to the intrigue is the cover art for MotorCity, which shows Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine—Franco’s co-stars in the upcoming movie Spring Breakers, due out in March 2013—posing in lingerie with fake ‘Daddy’ tattoos. The first release we’ve received from MotorCity is “Love In The Old Days,” which arrives to us in the form of a kaleidoscopic, vintage-styled music video with girls, beaches, smiles and sun-drenched shots galore. The track showcases spoken word verses from Franco with a catchy chorus sung over indie guitar-based instrumentation. Is it safe for Franco to finally add “music artist” to his multi-hyphenated professional title? You be the judge.
