Self Edge: Union Special 43200G Chainstitching Machine
Self Edge San Francisco’s new vintage chain stitching machine joins the family after a long search.

Self Edge San Francisco’s new vintage chain stitching machine joins the family after a long search. After plenty of perseverance, all three Self Edge shops in NYC, LA and SF are now able to offer in-house hemming services. The Union Special was a rare piece of machinery that was used for Japanese denim and American styling decades ago, and getting your hands on one today is both costly and a difficult. Thanks to Self Edge, you luckily don’t need your own as they can rip through the hems of your denim to create some nice altered fits year after year. Custom-built by Roy Slaper, the machine’s services will be offered on a daily basis at Self Edge San Francisco, with work being done by Julian Dash of Holy Stitch, SESF’s hemming and repair division.
