This Emac Concept Design Takes Apple Back to Class
A throwback to the bubbly iMac.
One of Steve Jobs’ most pioneering products during his second tenure at Apple was the iMac G3, a self-contained translucent desktop computer that had an easy-to-use software in Mac OS 8 and seamless Internet connectivity. The computer was a natural fit for classrooms and schools around the world and quickly because a staple in computer labs and dorm rooms the world over, cementing Apple as a powerhouse when it came to the education market.
German design collective curved/labs decided to tap into the iMac’s practicality and aesthetic, while pulling the computer face-forward into 2016. The resultant concept design — dubbed the eMac — features an all-glass touchscreen display, complete with speakers and dual front-facing cameras enabling for 3D capturing and rendering, scanning and imagining. In keeping with the source design’s playful customizability, the eMac would be available in multiple retro anodized aluminum colorways, as well as the Cupertino tech company’s more subdued current selection of silver, space grey, gold and rose gold.
