Leica Partners With Huawei to Form a Future Cameraphone Powerhouse
A win-win.

Chinese smartphone manufacturers Huawei have announced a partnership with optics experts Leica, marking the German company’s second foray into the camera-phone market since contributing lenses to Panasonic’s camera-centric CM1 model and the co-produced D-Lux line of compacts. Details are still hazy, however, as to what the working relationship between the two companies will be as far as R&D and future projects go. The integration of Leica lenses and branding into Huawei models will give the smartphone company’s lineup a boost in terms of luxury price points, while the exposure, for lack of a better term, granted by the #3 smartphone company is surely a benefit to the German camera giants.
We will provide updates on the nature of this partnership as details emerge.
