Although reared in California, Mark Suciu’s distinctly eastern approach to skateboarding has become the stuff of lore over the past few years. Suciu’s on-board skills are unparalleled for his ridiculously quick feet and ability to adapt to nearly any context – both of which traits and more have been duly honored with a professional model on adidas. What makes Suciu’s style so special is that it translates well to the ledge-centric plazas of the East Coast, which is a unique characteristic of cities like New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. where civil and skate interests intimately converge. In the above video, dubbed “Civil Liberty,” renowned videographer Chris Mulhern travels with Suciu to three main American plazas to explore how architecture plays into Suciu’s bar-raising steeze.
