Kanye West – Love Lockdown

by Chad Jordan, September 10, 2008

love lockdown cover Kanye West Love Lockdown

Anticipation has been building for Kanye’s upcoming album 808’s and Heartbreak since he performed his first single “Love Lockdown” live at the VMA’s early this week. The response for the single has gone from confusion to complete adulation. Whatever you think about the song, you have to at least give him props for moving in a new direction and yet again reinventing himself. “Love Lockdown” is a momentum building, slightly electronic fueled, auto tune song that is a bit darker and edgier then we usually get from Kanye. I for one am intrigued by his new direction and if the rest of his new album is like this I’m excited to see what he has in store. Download the newly leaked CD quality version of Love Lockdown over at Hypetrak.

This song is weeak. 4 chord progression, futuristic take on old blues. John Lee Hooker did it better, and without the euro-fag beats. Sorry Kanye, not feeling this one despite your tremendous talent.

this image of the heart kinda gives me that “Joker” feel to it, from the recent Batman Ads. I get that deep portrayal of emotion from the (looks like) deflated balloon shaped heart.

Thank you Hypebeast. I was thinking after seeing the performance that maybe Daft Punk is somehow involved in the production of this song and maybe the next album. But this is purely speculation.

Fuck, this was the exclusive track Kanye was performing at the Nike+ Human Race concert in Los Angeles. He stopped right in the fucking middle of it because the band messed up. I’m glad I finally got a chance to hear it, it sounded better live, probably because he didn’t have the auto-pitch correction shit while he was singing.

It’s alright, he just doesn’t have the vocals to be singing like that, that’s why he’s a rapper.

Just listen to it a few times, you’ll enjoy his new direction.

Yea, I’m not blown away by the track, but excited about the possible new direction for Kanye, hip hop, and pop music in general. He’s really setting a tone and we’re going to see a shift in styles. Keep blazing the trail Kanye!
