Polo Ralph Lauren and Navajo Weaver Naiomi Glasses Drop Third Capsule ‘Denim Daydream’
A seventh-generation weaver, Glasses is the brand’s inaugural Artist in Residence.
Naiomi Glasses has delivered her third and final custom collection for Ralph Lauren as its inaugural Artist in Residence. For the Denim Daydream capsule, Glasses used the color indigo to pay homage to Navajo rodeo culture and the signature attire of contestants.
Calling the rodeo her “first love,” Glasses, who is a seventh-generation Navajo weaver, grew up entrenched in the culture. Her first weaving projects, in fact, were saddle blankets.
The collection spans 27 men’s, women’s and unisex garments decorated with traditional Navajo design details. One indigo jacket is inspired by the trophy jackets that winners receive. A pair of jeans is accentuated with panels of brown suede on the front of the legs. Other pieces include collared shirts in denim and blue with contrast piping, stylized with cowboy hats and metal belts.
To pair with the clothing, Glasses curated a selection of turquoise and silver jewelry created by artisan families.
Ralph Lauren launched its Artist in Residence program to “expand its portrayal of America” and collaborate with the communities that have historically inspired its designs.
