SEVENTEEN's MINGYU Stars in Calvin Klein's Fall 2024 Campaign
The K-pop star tells Hypebeast about the shoot, his personal style and what he has planned next with his 13-strong band.
In the midst of preparations for his RIGHT HERE tour, K-pop star MINGYU of SEVENTEEN has landed a starring role in Calvin Klein’s Fall 2024 campaign. Shot by fashion photographer Park Jong Ha and directed by AJ Dean, the sartorial delivery sees the artist sporting the brand’s signature apparel, which includes outerwear, jeans, underwear and more.
Calvin Klein took to Instagram on Thursday to share a montage of MINGYU posing and dancing in a blue-yellow studio, as part of the campaign’s rollout. “MINGYU feels denim energy. The look is laidback and timeless.,” they captioned the post.
Throughout the video, he sports the label’s classic ’90s straight jeans, which boast a straight fit that sits at the waist and remains relaxed through the hip and thigh. The line also includes ’90s loose jeans and standard straight jeans, which can be styled with vintage-inspired trucker jackets or slim denim shirts.
Below, Hypebeast sat down with MINGYU to chat about the campaign’s creation, his personal style and what he has planned next with SEVENTEEN.

What was it like working with Calvin Klein on this campaign?
I was initially quite nervous and jittery to collaborate with such a global team of staff, but it turned out to be a fresh and fun experience. I felt like I developed great chemistry with the talented director, photographer, and entire crew, making it an absolute delight.
Calvin Klein is a go-to for refined, timeless staples. Can you remember when you first discovered the brand?
As you mentioned, Calvin Klein is such a timeless and longstanding brand that I’ve known it since I was very young—I can’t even pinpoint exactly when. I’ve been aware of the brand for as long as I can remember.
How would you describe your personal style?
Since I work out everyday, casual/comfortable is my usual go-to. However, I enjoy both sporty and polished looks depending on the occasion, which I believe showcases the two contrasting charms of my personal style.
Do you have a favorite piece in this collection?
The 90s Straight Jeans. When I tried them on for the campaign shoot, I instantly felt they were the perfect fit for me. Also, we explored three different styles by mixing and matching them with items like a bomber jacket, T-shirt, and hoodie, and they proved to be incredibly versatile, going well with everything.

Do you have a favorite fashion trend right now?
I don’t really focus on any one fashion trend. Instead, I like to check out looks from various brands for inspiration, almost like looking at artwork. When it comes to favorite fashion items, I usually go for sunglasses, eyeglasses, or a cap. I also like to jazz up a simple outfit with a necklace or bracelet.
A fashion ick?
I don’t think I have a particular fashion ick, because I think every individual style has its own value. Personally, I try to experiment with different styles or items, even if they seem a bit tricky for me to pull off.
How does it feel now that 17 Is Right Here is out in the world and you’re prepping to take the album on tour?
I try to stay calm, but there definitely is some pressure. I’m curious to see how the fans will react to the new side of me, but at the same time I want to show that I’m always the same person, unchanged and true to who I am. I’m excited to experience what the upcoming tour and new music will bring.
Are there any upcoming projects you have in the pipeline that you’re excited about?
SEVENTEEN is playing Lollapalooza Berlin on September 8, and I’m excited about the new album, tour and to see the response to this Calvin Klein campaign!
What has it been like connecting with your fans in Carat Land?
I always get a huge boost of energy from events where we can meet with CARATs, like CARAT LAND. CARAT LAND only happens once a year, but it’s no exaggeration to say I get a year’s worth of energy from it. It’s my life’s goal to keep my promise to our CARATs.
