Sightful’s Spacetop G1 Is a Screenless Laptop for the Spatial Computing Era
Using AR glasses to view a 100-inch virtual screen.
Tech startup Sightful has unveiled its contribution to the “spatial computing” space. While spatial computing has largely been associated with Apple’s Vision Pro headset, Sightful’s Spacetop G1 is the first-of-its-kind screenless laptop.
Headsets like the Vision Pro can be a bit clunky and are difficult to wear for hours on end. Sightful seeks to remedy that issue by pairing the screenless computer with AR glasses, which were created custom by Xreal.
Wearing the glasses, the Spacetop offers a 100-inch (2,540 mm), described by Sightful for the “work from anywhere” world. The laptop comes packed with AI technology and runs on the company’s proprietary operating system, SpaceOS.
“We introduced Spacetop to free people from the constraints of time and space, as we don’t believe people should be stuck in 14” screens,” Sightful CEO Tamir Berliner said. “We firmly believe in the power of AR glasses as the first step. Physical reality has always been the limiting factor – bulky, uncomfortable headsets, limited battery and processing power, and a world that is not yet built for daily AR.”
After launching through an invite-only early access program, the Spacetop relied on user feedback to tweak its hardware and software. The final product has an 8-hour battery life and a 70% faster processing chip.
Those interested in getting their hands on a Spacetop G1, which retails for $1,900, can reserve a unit on Sightful’s website. The first batch is expected to ship in October 2024.
