Description
Olivier Rousteing is a French fashion designer and the current creative director of French fashion house, Balmain.
Olivier was born in France in 1986, growing up in Bordeaux with adoptive wite parents before moving to Paris at age 19 to study at ESMOD (Ecole Supérieure des Arts et Techniques de la Mode). He graduated in 2003 and began his career at Roberto Cavalli. Rousteing quickly became the Italian label’s head designer for women’s ready-to-wear, a position which he held for five years.
In 2009, Rousteing moved to Balmain to head its women’s ready-to-wear line, working closely with then-creative director, Christophe Decarnin, who has been attributed as having influenced Rousteing’s style.
In 2011, Rousteing replaced Decarnin as the label’s creative director, overseeing both its men’s and women’s lines. Rousteing has continued to uphold Balmain’s reputation, with his rock-and-roll and edgier aesthetic both revitalizing the brand and gaining it new followers.
