The Nike Air Max 90 SP “Black Leather” now has a firm release date, with the pared-down take on the classic runner set to arrive on November 13. Part of Nike’s Fall 2026 slate, the pair swaps the silhouette’s signature layering for a mostly leather build defined by stitching instead of stacked panels.
With the date locked in, the focus turns to how different this pair looks from a standard Air Max 90. A typical version builds its shape from leather, mesh and plastic pieces layered on top of one another, but this release handles nearly everything in leather. Rather than adding separate overlays, Nike uses stitch lines to trace the Swoosh, the mudguard and the side panels. Each element stays readable against the black, while the overall surface ends up noticeably flatter and cleaner than the model’s usual profile.
Perforated leather takes over the areas that normally use contrasting materials. The plastic eyestays are gone, replaced with punched leather that sits flush with the rest of the upper, and the same material wraps the heel, where Nike has dropped the usual Nike Air branding. A tonal logo on the tongue is the only obvious mark left, and black laces disappear into the upper instead of breaking up the colorway.
All of the reworking stops at the sole. The familiar Air Max 90 midsole and visible heel Air unit carry over unchanged, finished in black along with the rubber outsole. The one break in the dark palette is a faint blue tint inside the Air window. The stripped-back result sits closer to the minimal styles NikeLab has released over the years than to a typical Air Max 90.
