Sob Rock Records, the newly formed personal record label founded by John Mayer, has officially launched in partnership with Universal Music’s Mercury Records alongside his new single, “Tom and Jerry”. The drop marks the artist’s first new solo music in five years.
Named after his 2021 studio LP Sob Rock—his final release with Columbia Records following a 21-year run—the personal label will serve as the release platform for Mayer’s upcoming ninth studio album. Co-produced by Mayer alongside Blake Slatkin and mixed by Serban Ghenea, “Tom and Jerry” was tracked at Chaplin Studios, the historic Hollywood lot Mayer acquired with director McG in early 2026. The arrival signifies a deliberate pivot back to his solo catalog after several years fronting Dead & Company and creative directing their Las Vegas Sphere residencies.
“Working with Tyler Arnold and the talented team at Mercury Records has already proven to be a great partnership,” Mayer stated. “The path from creative vision to execution has never been easier or more rewarding. I feel very inspired, and I’m excited for what’s to come.”
“Tom and Jerry” is available to stream now across major platforms, with Mayer scheduled to begin a 21-show residency at the Las Vegas Sphere on April 8, 2027.
