Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss the remainder of the season after doctors discovered blood clots in his lungs
Hurts is clinically stable and expected to make a full recovery following a minimum three-month treatment on anticoagulation medication
A joint statement from the Eagles and agent Nicole Lynn confirmed he will remain around the team while conditioning during his recovery
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled out for the remainder of the NFL season after doctors discovered multiple blood clots in his lungs. The medical update was officially confirmed in a joint statement released Monday by the franchise and Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lynn.
According to the statement, Hurts underwent further medical evaluation after initially being diagnosed with a superficial clot in his calf. The subsequent testing revealed “a deep vein thrombosis, as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli.” While the Pro Bowl passer is currently “clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations,” league protocol and medical guidance prohibit him from taking part in contact football activities while prescribed anticoagulation medication.
Treatment for the blood clots is slated to take at least three months, according to Rapoport, officially ending his 2026 campaign. Despite the stoppage, the organization and medical personnel expressed complete optimism regarding his return to the field. “Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery,” the statement confirmed. “We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners. In the meantime, he will remain active around the team and continue to condition. More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects.”
