Performance Apparel Maker Rhone Brought Pure Playground Chaos to New York Corporate Life
Joakim Noah even crashed Hudson Yards for a competitive day of hoops, music and giveaways.
New York City’s bustling Hudson Yards took an energetic break from the daily hustle when performance apparel brand Rhone transformed the Public Square & Gardens into a massive outdoor playground. Timed right ahead of the NBA season tip-off, the Adult Recess event brought New Yorkers together near the iconic Vessel for a full day of pick-up basketball and classic games. The initiative was part of Rhone’s 12 Pursuits, a year-long framework for building a stronger, steadier version of yourself, with October highlighting the pure joy of play—challenging the relentless grind of corporate life by reminding busy adults that progress is about how you live, not just how much you work.
The court was alive with non-stop action from morning to evening. Participants jumped into open pick-up games or tried their hand at lower-stakes, nostalgic classics like HORSE and Around the World. Beyond the hoops, attendees customized complimentary Rhone hats with their favorite NBA team, while a live DJ kept the energy high with music, giveaways, and unexpected prizes.
The main event hit high gear when two-time NBA All-Star Joakim Noah dropped by to sign autographs, pose for photos, and run the court alongside everyday New Yorkers. Rhone’s leadership team—including Co-Founder Ben Checketts and former NBA executive Dave Checketts—also joined the fun, alongside a crowd of influencers and Rhone Reserve members.
The single-day takeover also highlighted Rhone’s growing role as an Official Lifestyle Apparel Partner of the NBA, following the launch of their expanded licensed apparel line—which includes women’s gear for the first time.
Adult Recess gave New Yorkers a rare, refreshing excuse to trade their meeting calendars for court time. By translating their brand philosophy into an engaging real-world experience, Rhone’s message was importantly about moving, connecting, and playing. Before heading back to their desks, participants walked away with customized gear, fresh memories, and a QR code to keep the spirit of play going all year long.
