BEAMS and REI Co-op have joined forces once again to launch the BEAMS x REI Co-op Expedition Parka. Reaching deep into REI’s Living Archive, the collaborative outerwear piece takes an archival 1986 silhouette and brings it forward through a contemporary Japanese design perspective.
To create the modernized outerwear piece, both design teams repeatedly referenced an original 1986 sample throughout the development process. The updated parka preserves the exact silhouette, structural integrity, and distinct retro color palette of the original model while introducing high-level performance upgrades.
The revived silhouette is constructed with WINDSTOPPER® by GORE-TEX LABS® weatherproofing, providing windproof and breathable protection for cold-weather environments. For insulation, the coat is packed with 650-fill down to deliver lightweight thermal protection. By carefully balancing historical construction details with functional technical materials, the collaboration delivers a seamless bridge between 1980s outdoor utility and modern streetwise outerwear.
