Disney World has officially announced Monstropolis, a brand-new Monsters, Inc. themed land set to open at Disney‘s Hollywood Studios in 2027. The immersive expansion was unveiled during the D23 convention by Walt Disney Imagineering.
The cornerstone of Monstropolis is Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster, engineered to recreate the iconic door vault sequence from the film franchise. The hanging coaster launch mechanism will carry guests 40 feet high in four seconds, utilizing vehicle contraptions designed to harness both laughs and screams. Alongside the coaster, the land will incorporate a new theater experience developed in collaboration with Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic. The attraction pairs high-definition panels with physical characters, optical illusions, and an original song written by composer Randy Newman.
Beyond the attractions, the land will feature new retail and dining concepts straight out of the film’s universe. Highlights include Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, inspired by the mascot from Monsters University, and a reimagined version of Harryhausen’s sushi restaurant featuring a full animatronic octopus chef preparing dishes on-site.
Monstropolis is scheduled to officially open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2027.
