Summary

  • Whoop and Samuel Ross (SR_A) are launching Project Terrain on March 12, featuring industrial-inspired apparel with discreet sensor pockets for seamless device integration.
  • The design-forward men’s and women’s collections prioritize everyday aesthetics over visible tech, kicking off a two-year partnership of limited-edition drops.

Health-tech wearable company Whoop has unveiled a first look at their apparel line “Project Terrain,” designed by Samuel Ross and his SR_A design studio. The partnership with the A-COLD-WALL founder, announced at the head of the year, is premised on creating fashionable solutions that allow Whoop’s tracking devices to blend seamlessly into a design-forward wardrobe.

Set to drop on March 12, the men’s collection includes a technical shell running jacket, an undershirt, and technical shorts with modular features and technical details like welded seams, which improve durability. For women, the performance bra, shorts, and shell jacket are tailored to the feminine form. Across both categories, each garment is designed to integrate Whoop’s devices with discreet sensor pockets.

On their intents, Whoop CEO Will Ahmed said, “It’s in many ways taking the tech out of the tech and making it feel like something that should be worn in everyday wear,” to Vogue Business. Aesthetically, the collection lives in the same realm as Ross’s A-Cold-Wall, which is well known for its dark, industrial sensibilities.

“We’re also designing a system that can be worn and integrated into the wearer’s wardrobe rather than trying to overpronounce itself. I think that speaks to the sensibility of Whoop’s existing community. They already have a really tight design sensibility,” Ross added.

The Project Terrain partnership with Samuel. Ross will continue via limited-edition drops over the next two years. Additionally, the collaborators have shared that they have a second-tier concept line in the works.
