Quentin Tarantino Revisits ‘Kill Bill’ Prequel Idea: “I Like the Idea of a Bill Origin Story”

Despite previously shutting down a third film, Quentin Tarantino could be revisiting the idea of a Kill Bill: Vol. 3.

As per ScreenRant, the filmmaker opened up about the possibility of a third film again during a screening of his Kill Bill lost chapter, Yuki’s Revenge, at his Vista Theater in Los Angeles. “I’ve got other things to do right now, but I had a whole Kill Bill idea in my mind when we were doing it, and then I was so wiped out from doing the movie,” he told the audience.

Tarantino continued, “I like the idea of a Bill origin. A story of Bill, about how Bill became Bill and the three godfathers that made Bill: Esteban Vihaio, Pai Mei, and Hattori Hanzō. Will I live long enough to do that? That remains to be seen.”

While the possibility of a Vol. 3 excites fans, there’s also the issue of recasting several important actors: David Carradine (Bill), who died in 2009, Sonny Chiba (Hattori Hanzō), who died in 2021 and Michael Parks (Esteban Vihaio) who died in 2017. If Bill’s family dynamic is included in the story, Tarantino will also have to recast Bill’s brother Budd, who was portrayed by the late Michael Madsen.

Yuki’s Revenge is a short animated film created by Tarantino and Epic Games. The lost chapter debuted on Fortnite and follows Yuki, the sister of Gogo Yubari, as she hunts down Beatrix Kiddo in Los Angeles to exact her revenge. Uma Thurman reprises her role as The Bride, while Tarantino took over the voice acting for Bill. The short will be part of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair’s theatrical run.
