Summary

  • Jaeger-LeCoultre has revealed two new Reverso Tribute Enamel additions honoring Chinese art and the Year of the Horse
  • This includes a trio of “Xu Beihong” editions and the “Horse” edition featuring enamel miniatures of horses

Jaeger-LeCoultre‘s Reverso Tribute Enamel line expands with two exceptional additions: the “Xu Beihong” editions and the “Horse” limited edition — each offered in just ten pieces to celebrate the forthcoming Year of the Horse. Drawing on the Reverso’s 1931 origins as a polo watch, these timepieces unite Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Art Deco swiveling case with the Manufacture’s in-house Mètiers Rares expertise in enamel, guillochage and engraving, underscoring a century-long dialogue between function and decorative art.

The Reverso Tribute Enamel “Xu Beihong” pays homage to the father of modern Chinese painting through three white-gold models bearing miniature grand feu enamel reproductions of Xu Beihong’s iconic horse paintings on their casebacks. Each canvas, whether capturing a lone galloping steed, a pair in synchronized motion or a stately standing horse, requires 80 hours of meticulous enamel painting. This is complete with rigorous guilloché dial work in colors that echo traditional Chinese landscapes: Evergreen Pine Green, Distant Mountain Blue and Crimson Dawn Orange.

Powering the “Xu Beihong” series is the manually wound Calibre 822, delivering hours, minutes and a 42-hour power reserve in a slim white-gold case. The dial in reverse, ranging from sunray, barley-seed to herringbone guilloché, all serve as vivid counterpoints to the miniature masterpieces on their respective covers.

The Reverso Tribute Enamel “Horse” limited edition extends the equestrian theme with a pink-gold caseback featuring a hand-engraved, high-relief horse leaping from sand-blasted clouds set against Black Opaque grand feu enamel. Executed using modelled engraving directly atop enamel, the motif celebrates the horse’s symbolism of power, freedom and perseverance in Chinese culture, mirrored on the matching black enamel dial with Dauphine hands and Art Deco appliqués.
