The singles feature input from legendary producer Greg Kurstin. “I Wish I Didn’t Waste Your Time” hears a relaxed bassline and Thundercat’s soft falsetto, tapping into his classic sound. “Children of the Baked Potato,” on the other hand, invokes an urgent energy, matched by Remi Wolf’s commanding vocals. The song’s title refers to a legendary jazz club in Los Angeles that has been a major influence on Thundercat.
“She’s [Remi] a child of the Baked Potato like me,” Thundercat says in a statement. “She knew exactly what the song needed. And it was wild to watch her make it happen. The more I listen to the song, it’s clear there was no one better I could have picked.”
